Northern Ireland Opera and friends are putting on two special YouTube shows over the festive season to bring season cheer to your home.
On December 18 NI Opera will join the Ulster Orchestra to perform The Magic of Christmas, and on December 23 Mary McCabe will represent the Associate Artists in Snow Water’s advent series, singing ‘O Holy Night’ in their film series Under a Christmas Sky.

Following the success of the tribute in May to the NHS and key workers At Home for Heroes, they have curated a Christmas film with musical contributions from some of Northern Ireland’s best-loved classical musicians.

These include The Priests with Ruth McGinley, Neil Martin, Michael McHale, Isaac Mason (chorister with the Belfast Children’s Cathedral Choir) and a performance by Mukesh Sharma and Daniel Perskawiec on harmonium and sitar.

The Associate Artists, formed in response to the pandemic to bring opera to the community, will perform with David Corr, winner of the Festival of Voice 2020.

At Home for Christmas will also feature readings from journalist Anne Hailes and broadcaster Sean Rafferty, Patron of Associate Artists, who will host the film.

Expect to hear favourite carols, readings, a Christmas piano medley, a chorus from Die Fledermaus, a Sanskrit prayer for peace and some beautiful cello pieces amongst the performances in the film, which has been filmed in and around Belfast City Hall and First Church Belfast.
The Associate Artists were formed in September in response to the current COVID-19 crisis, to bring opera to the community safely and accessibly. They are either alumni of our development programmes or our main stage productions.

They have been delivering community concerts online and in socially distanced environments, school and charity workshops and performing where possible with some of our regular partners and venues too, including the Ulster Orchestra, the Portico of Ards, the Belfast International Arts Festival, Inspire, Sure Start, Connswater, SnowWater, Lisburn and Castlereagh County Council and numerous others.

Tickets for the December 18 The Magic of Christmas are £12 and be booked at https://niopera.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=80ede4d4137941e2420ff5d14&id=95ee849bb9&e=4070b672d7
